Abstract

Phyllosphere is the aerial part of the plant in which the dominant part is the leaves. It represents a rich ecological niche, as it harbors bacteria, fungi and algae. The phyllosphere of submerged plants is continuously exposed to variations of different environmental factors such as temperature, sunlight and UV radiation, and subsequently, it is subjected to environmental stresses. According to the literature, phyllosphere fungi can be isolated by different methods. Although fungi isolated from this specific niche can be pathogenic to plants, they can play a substantial role in plant growth by producing auxins and cytokinins. Other phyllosphere fungi are excellent biocontrol agents, while some show the ability to remediate pollutants. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
