Abstract

Inflammatory diseases have emerged as a significant public health concern due to their substantial socioeconomic impact on people, family members, and the national healthcare system of the nation. Chronic inflammation triggered by rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most major causes of death worldwide. Similarly, inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease increase morbidity and mortality among patients due to severe gastroenteritis. The management of diabetes-related wounds is a significant challenge in the field of medicine, as it is accompanied with significant side effects. An exopolysaccharide (EPS) is a sugar polymer that is produced mainly by bacteria. The exopolysaccharides have strong biological roles. Several pharmacological benefits have been gained from the treatment with EPS besides absence of considerable side effects. The specific position of N-acetyl group seems to have an extra role in the antiarthritis effect of polysaccharides. EPS exhibits significant biological action as an antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, anticoagulant, and anticancer agent and demonstrates positive impacts on rheumatoid arthritis (RA). © 2026 Elsevier Inc.
